"Crossing the swing bridge, built in 1901, over the Caledonian Canal. The series of eight locks, known as Neptune's Staircase, give access to the higher sections of the canal. Engineered by Thomas Telford and opened in 1822, the canal links the east and west coasts of scotland via the Great Glen and Loch Ness."

Corpach (Field of the Dead) 3 miles from the start of the journey. "Where Loch Eil, Loch Linnhe andthe Caledonian Canal meet. Corpach was where the bodies of Highland nobility were kept on rout to Iona for burial. The canal basin accommodates vessels up to 203 ft long."

Glenfinnan (Finnan's Glen) 16 miles from the start. "The Glenfinnan viaduct built by Robert "Concrete Bob" McAlpine, now recognised as a film location thanks to the Harry Potter movies, is 416 yards long with 21 arches, 100 ft high, and built on a 12 chain curve."
