DAASV - Leonardo at The Tech Museum 12/14/2008

On 12/14/2008, the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Silicon Valley sponsored the 2008 DAASV Holiday Party and Alumi Seminar,
"Design Thinking and the Liberal Arts" by Professor Peter Robbie of the Thayer School of Engineering, held at the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, CA. Following the presentation, attendees toured the exhibit, "Leonardo da Vinci: 500 Years into the Future", showing drawings from the original journals and working models constructed from those drawings.

Many DAASV members responded to the announcement, and nametags were ready for them with James at the check-in desk.
James, DAASV Treasurer, and David greeted arrivals and headed them inside for some food and company.

The arrival space was just inside the Park Ave entrance to the Tech museum. The midway from the Christmas in the Park celebration was just outside in the rain.
Dartmouth alumns immediately got some food and started networking, as they are wont to do.
Janet and Mary found some good food and good company.
Younger members looked pretty comfortable.
There was a variety of offerings, including shrimp and sausage.

An appreciation gift was presented to the Stanleys for hosting the previous DAASV Holiday Parties.

There was an active Q&A session following the presentation.
Entering the exhibit, one encounters a model of the dome of the Florence Cathedral.
The significance of the cathedral dome design is explained nearby.
The cutaway side of the model of the Florence Cathedral revealed some of the brickwork design.
This was a crane system.
The notes and drawings were exquisite in their clarity and detail.
This system was designed to lift water to power a mill.
