CA Academy of Science in SF 1/20/2010

These are pictures from a mid-week visit to Golden Gate Park and the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, CA. The third Wednesday of the month admission is free.

The newly redone facility has a living roof, rainforest environment, planetarium, aquarium, African Hall, and other displays. It's worth a visit.

The new planetarium is more like an IMAX than the familiar domed room of the past.

On the roof, the solar cells are visible as part of the overhang. Across the way is the de Young museum.
The roof is about 18 inches of multilayer natural materials, topped with California native plants. the windows are over the rainforest.
Near the African Hall are a couple of giraffes.
