Sunnyvale Cumberland South 4th of July 2009

The residents of Cumberland South neighborhood in Sunnyvale, CA enjoy a 4th of July parade and pot luck each year. For 2009 the young ones also enjoyed an inflated water slide.

Driving around town, we saw lots of groups pre paring for 4th of July celebrations, including these folks in Cupertino
In the Cumberland South neighborhood of Sunnyvale, decorations were up for the celebration
The street was blocked off and the party had started.
Neighbors gathered for the parade.
Every event needs a master of ceremonies.
The parade participants are getting their instructions.

The official event begins with the pledge of allegiance.

The parade route is around the block and then back to the party.

The pot luck was amazing in its variety and amount.
Everyone seemed to like something.
There was quite a turnout.
A special hit was the inflated water slide.
Arranging the water to make it slippery was a project.
The kids were instantly ready to go.
There was no lack of eager sliders.

Families gathered to enjoy lunch.
Many brought chairs.
Meeting with friends was wonderful.
There were enthusiastic participants of all ages.

Music was provided by nearby residents.
After a while a fire truck showed up.
They arranged things for easy exit.
The firemen gave out stick-on badges.
Kids lined up immediately to explore the fire truck.
Lots of families took part.
Having the street blocked off provided a fun, safe place to celebrate.
